Look for Opportunity
Since its Summer and we have no Mass for me to invite you to I thought I'd share this scripture and a little prayer. Take a little time, it will be worth it.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about His mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains”
(Colossians 4:3, NLT)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
When Paul wrote today’s verse, he was in chains in prison. He had been arrested for preaching the gospel. Everything in his surroundings shouted “limitations,” but instead of looking at his surroundings, Paul kept his eyes on the limitless God. He kept looking for the open door of opportunity that God would have for him next.
No matter what “chains” you may feel like you are in today, remember, we serve a God who’s in the business of setting people free. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He fills you with His power. He promises to walk with you all the days of your life.
When doors look closed all around you, when your surroundings look limited, when you feel like you’re in chains, remember, God is still at work in your life. Like Paul, keep your hopes up. Keep expecting. Keep believing. Pray for those opportunities to be opened to you. If you fall, get back up and press forward with even greater determination to accomplish the dream that God has planted in your heart. The prayer of the righteous avails much, so keep praying because He promises to break the chains and open doors of opportunity in your life!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, I choose to take my eyes off my surroundings and focus on You. I choose to focus on the passion and dream You’ve planted in my heart. I trust that You are working behind the scenes, opening doors of opportunity. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

A few reminders
Your Group assignment was due on Monday. Please keep in mind that this is a summer session and that means that you need to work hard to meet deadlines and keep the pace. As mentioned at the start of classes, we will cover the entire ten chapters the same as if it were a regular semester. You need to be responsible and do your part to achieve this requirement. I will let it slide, somewhat, by extending the date to Friday of this week. If by then I do not have a submission then I will have to resort to assigning M to your grade.

Data Flow Diagrams
Data Flow Diagram are a way of documenting a process. We have ordered pizza from Peppers on two occasions in an effort to document and improve the current system. We will now get a chance to put our experience to use by creating 2 DFD.
The first will be to document the process as it was experienced. (When we ordered)
the second will be to document the improved process. This will include your recommendations.
Have fun with it. The due date will announced later. Start working on improving the process.

Group Colaboration
In an effort to foster group collaboration the Food for thought assignment will be due Monday 13th. We will present in the form of a debate. Please work together to put up a good fight.
A written report will be required for each team. Your grade will be divided into two parts. 50% individual, based on your visible participation throughout the presentation and 50% based on your collaborative effort in compile the written component.
Work well together. This is good practice for in life you will need to work with many people. Some you will want to work with and others that you won't want to work with but unless you quit you will need to work with them so learn form now!

Group Assignment: Food for Thought!!
Topic: Is access to the internet a Human right
Human Rights: Clean Water, Health Care, Internet
Frank La Rue, wrote a report on UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression. I think you would find it interesting as it gives insight into how the Internet can be seen is a human right. Note also The UN's Human Rights Council has issued a report saying that Internet access ought to be an essential right for all citizens. Research and find this report and evaluate its content. What do you consider to be human rights. When the UN calls something a human right, it's definitely time to take notice globally. Are they justified in doing so in this case at this time and .. in Belize?
In Group research the report. State the UN’s position on the internet. Provide reasons for this position. State your position with regards to Belize and its global position, recent world event. Create list of pros and Cons of the internet. Lastly state what this information has prompted you to do, if any if not state why.

Disappointed
I was so Disappointed today.
I had high expectations of all my CIS 120 students.
I was eager to see the creative ways in which the designed their instructional manual.
It was due last week. Do you remember?
Yes, I had extended the date, TWICE, in an effort to assist due to other projects and expo and a whole lot of excuses that I bought into.
I made it clear that I would extend the date but that expected it to be handed in at exam time and done exceptionally well too.
Yet, SADLY a few students disappointed me. These are the excuses I got:
***"I tried printing this morning and ran out of ink."
***"I tired p-printing it this morning but Angelus was not opened yet."
***"I tried printing it this morning but the man across the street did not know hoe to do it."
***"I tried printing it this morning and my computer crashed."
***"I can print it and hand it to you later but I'm done I can show you."
***"My excuse is the same as hers."
Students, I try to teach you to be professional. I try to practice patience and understanding with all of you. But I expect you to be responsible and submit my assignments on time and well done.
Come on...if I extended your due date, you should be prepared. I did not give you extra time to waste.
I am sorry but that is my position on this matter.
Like I always tell you in life you have choices, for which there are consequences, chose wisely and only after you are sure that you can handle the consequences.
INT 211, both sections your turn is Friday at 8:00 am don't let me have to repeat this speech to you too! After all you are second years and you know I will not take your late project.
Please note also that it was not all bad. Like I said a few students did not meet my expectations or class requirements, many did though and exceptionally well. To all those, you know who you are, I am proud of you for a job well done!! Keep it up, you will go far and reap the benefits of all your hard work and sacrifice. It might not seem so now, but persevere and you will see...

IT's GOOD TO BE BACK !!
:-) Happy Labor DAY!!
I know you are all eager to get back to classes.
I had discussed the criteria for the Easter assignments in class and said that I would post the requirements on the blog for you to ensure that you covered everything.
Well that posting will be made Tomorrow by noon. Since I want you to use this list to ensure you submit quality work I will delay the due date by an entire week. That means it will be due first class next week.
Sleep well we begin anew tomorrow.
As for the chapter we are to cover this week; we stick to schedule. Adelante. .

INT 211 Class Notice
Please note that Saint John's College High School is having a web page competition tomorrow as a part of their IT expo. I have been asked officially by their Head of Department, Ms. Young, to be a judge. I accepted :')
My involvement will be between 9 am to 10 am. I hope to be done by then.
I will do my best to not have it affect my scheduled 10 am class but if it does it should not be for more than a few minutes.
I am therefore requesting that you remain in class until I arrive. I will be there.
While you wait please review your slides on the chapter to ensure a dynamic discussion. Also note that the Dean, Mrs. Peralta is expected to visit to confirm our ten none functioning systems.
I am sure she will meet a well behaved class even in my absence...right!

Also remember that the short answer section for chapter 6 & 7 is to be completed and submitted to me on the last day of class for this week. Please make sure that you are ready to submit your assignments printed when you come to class.
You can copy the questions for both chapter 6 and 7 from the website (5 each)
The ten questions and the answers (using examples) are to be printed and submitted in class. That will conclude the chapter assigned for last week.
INT 211
This week we continue and complete Chapter 12. Please remember to work on your web page assignment. I expect great things from you.
Other than that please don't let your fire burn out too early this week.
Keep it going to the end of the week. Your break is coming soon so make use of the class time now.

Food for thought Session 1
Our class discussion confirms that many of you are unsure of your future career path. You all know I would love for that path to lead down the IT pathway. However if IT is not your area I will at least be satisfied if you can at least identify an area any area. With this in mind I want you to answer the following questions.
Remember to structure your responses and express yourself clearly. These questions are structured to probe your thought and hopefully inspire your future actions. How you benefit from the exercise depends on your input into the analysis of these questions. Do not shortchange yourself.
1. What is your idea of a career plan or career planning?
2. Research the definition of a career: Does that broaden your understanding or idea of a career? How does this understanding help you build your career?
3. IT as an industry is maturing. How does this affect your career planning?
4. Research Careers in the field of Information Technology. Why do positions in the highly-specialized areas of IT seem difficult to achieve?
5. Of the options listed that make IT a great career, which is most appealing to you?
6. What additional factors make IT a great career choice for you?
7. How important are personal satisfaction and interest to you when selecting IT as a career choice?
8. As you look at the factors for selecting a particular job, which is most important to you? Which is least important? Are there others you have or would consider important?
9. Why is it important to not be defined by the title you hold or your current role/position?
10. Discuss the importance of knowing the roles and responsibilities of various careers and why it is important to career development?
11. What is a working plan? It is said that a working plan makes tedious and unrewarding jobs bearable. What does this mean and how does it help you grow your career?
12. What additional factors make IT a great career choice for you?
13. What is outsourcing? How critical a factor is outsourcing for those pursuing an IT career?
14. Do you feel your answers reflect a positive self-assessment? If not, what can you do to change that?
15. Do you think this exercise has been beneficial to your career planning? Explain why or why not.

Housekeeping
I must take some time out to address some disturbing news.
I was informed by the Dean that she received a report from the IT Director claiming that students are eating in the computer lab and apparently are being encouraged/allowed to do so by the teachers."
Needless to say I am astonished at this allegation and out rightly state that in my case, this is a false statement. Never have I knowingly allowed any student in my class or otherwise to eat in the lab during my presence. Of course I can only speak for myself and for the times I am present in the lab.
You all can attest to the fact that I would not tolerate nor condone such behavior.
Obviously my actions are not enough to stamp out this unwanted behavior altogether.
Hence I seek your support in the following..
1. Continue to adhere to our policies in relation our lab rules.
Especially when in another teachers class or if no classes are in session and you are in the computer lab.
2. If you are in the presence of someone who is eating in the lab or doing anything that is contrary to my expectations and requirements, please be mature and responsible and let them know that this is unacceptable behavior.
I will be posting a reminder/copy of all the lab rules so that if you are ever put in a position and do not know how to address the matter, simply refer to my blog, bring up the list of rules and point it out to the offender. It may be easier that way.
I will also be posting a copy of the rules on the bulletin board in the lab and around campus to make everyone aware of the expectations when in the lab and that it is a commitment they agreed to when seeking lab access.
Please let us work together to ensure that we get the most out of our equipment and time spent in the computer lab.

Stealth Mode: Making Yourself Nearly Invisible on Facebook
I found he excerpt below written by Nicholas Jackson interesting and
thought I’d share with you as it relates to privacy on the web. I know you might have seen it and did not really pay any attention. So here it is!!!
"You can go nearly invisible on Facebook — nobody will be able to view your photographs, see your activity or where you've checked in except for existing friends — but still have an account to use around the web.
If you're ready to move into Facebook stealth mode, follow these simple steps:
• Visit Facebook.com, log in to your profile and click 'Account' in the top-right corner. From there, choose 'Privacy Settings.'
• From the 'Privacy Settings' page, click on 'View Settings' to see who can search for you, send messages to your account, see your education and work settings and more. Change all of these drop-down menus to 'Friends Only.'
• Return to the 'Privacy Settings' page and choose 'Customize Settings' near the bottom of the page. This new page will load a number of different privacy options, but you'll want to click through each one and change the setting to 'Only Me' so that nobody else can see your Facebook activity.
• Stay on the 'Customize Settings' page and scroll down to 'Things Others Share.' Here, you'll want to edit and disable settings so that your friends are unable to write on your wall, comment on posts and check you in to places.
• Return to the 'Privacy Settings' page and, under 'Apps and Websites' in the bottom-left corner, select 'Edit Your Settings.' This page shows all of the third-party websites and applications that you have given access to some of your Facebook information. thought I’d share with you as it relates to privacy on the web.
If you see anything on this list that you want to remove, just click to remove it from the list.
• Stay on the 'Apps and Websites' page, scroll down to 'Instant Personalization' and select 'Edit Settings.' Uncheck the box at the bottom of this page to block other websites from accessing your Facebook interests. Select 'Confirm' when a pop-up asks you if you're sure you want to disable this option.

Please note the following:
**The prerequisite for INT 211 is C or better in INT 111.
**This means that if you have not taken INT 111 you need to withdraw.
**If you have taken INT 111 and did not earn C you need to withdraw.
**These classes require that you have access to a computer and the internet.
**You are responsible to keep yourself updated by using this blog and your engrade account.
**The school charges a lab fee and provides lab time so please make use of it.
**You are expected to be present to all classes if you are unable to do so please inform me via phone 629-9922, text 629-9922 , blog mscooperscorner.blogspot.com, email acooper.jc.sjc.edu.bz or note delivered to the office or to the lab assistant. An unexcused absence is not acceptable and I need to be informed before the absence not after the fact.
**Assignments are to be handed in on time and in the manner requested. If I ask for a printed copy I do not expect to receive a flash drive or an email.
No late assignments will be accepted.
In the highly unlikely event that some arrangement is made for the acceptance of a late assignment- there will be a reduction in the grade.
**Grades are placed online and can be viewed at www.engrade.com you will be required to create an account and monitor your grades frequently. If you have a query please forward the query by the end of the Month in which it falls. No changes will be made after the monthly reports have been issued and finalized.
That’s all for now, again welcome!!
